Brooklyn Art Project - Spread 3

Determined to better manage the control of my (Acrylic) paint I resorted to using a sponge. I didn't get it right at first but things felt better by the end of this spread.
The point for me of working straight into the Moleskine is to stop me deliberating about the content - it'll be interesting to see how this rolls out.

Brooklyn Art Project - Spread 2

A struggle or what? I completed this spread before reading the, mainly personal, comments from my last post and will look to using collage techniques where appropriate.
Is this self-explanatory? Suffice to say that I have moved on as my new life tries to find it's own rhythms.

When I discover who I am, I'll be free

Brooklyn Art Project Spread 1

Or perhaps that should be, when I discover my best quilt making medium I'll be free to make the quilts I want to make!

I wanted to include a photocopy of this ATC at the start of the sketchbook as it encapsulates long conversations about what we are doing and where we are going with our quiltmaking.  But this was my first struggle  - with the format of the page. It was longer and thinner than it seemed! The second problem was getting colour on to the page that worked with the colour of the ATC. This obviously isn't right but the paper was beginning to disintegrate under my efforts so it remains as it is.

Brooklyn Art Project

It will become obvious that I don't know what I'm doing here - but that is nothing new and at least, this time, it's deliberate. As ever I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone:
  • the BAP is a deliberate attempt at someting new and something out of my comfort zone. As ever it's going to be self-taught and I'm coming to realise that whilst this is a good thing  it isn't always the best way to do things.
  • I've set up a BAP page on the blog and this is an attempt to use HTML anchors to cross-link multiple pages. (Is HTML old hat, do I know what I'm talking about, will I fall at the first attempt??? Answers - yes, no and probably, come to mind in just that order!)
More information about the Brooklyn Art Project can be found here and my ramblings about it here

A timely gift

I have a non-blogging friend who produces the most beautiful work, that introduced me to the phrases 'butterfly brain' and 'technique junky'. She recognises these traits in me because she is the number one sufferer, so it was a real treat to receive from her, this ATC:

Even though I don't think I'll ever discover who I am (The person who is me seems to be constantly changing!) I'm embarking on the BAP in the naive hope that I might find out a bit more about myself !!!!

I've signed up!

Belatedly to be sure, but I've had a change of heart and signed up for the http://www.brooklynartproject.com/ There was a lot of excitement when the project was launched and I nearl went with the flow but eventually decided that I had other things to focus on. Now that my focus has changed I've decided to give it a go. The main reason for changing my mind was being re-sent a link of the possible titles and seeing, as if for the first time, 'Facing Forward'. I've no thoughts about how I will fill the sketchbook other than that I'll be using it record my transition into life as a retiree!
