The challenge this month was the question …What is it to be at the half way mark? There were lots of thoughts that ran through my mind but the immediate, and most rewarding one was, pleasure! It's not unknown for me to start off with something full of enthusiasm to find that the enthusiasm wanes and life gets in the way. But no matter what has happened I've made time each month to meet these challenges. The pleasure I feel isn't about the outcome, but about maintaining the discipline.
The month of June saw several things coming together for me, I'm still 'playing' but I also attended the CQ Summer School and spent a weekend in a class with Bobby Britnell and began an on-line Studio Journal Course with Sharon Bogon. What these two classes have shown quite clearly is that I'm only half way there ........ at the most! I can take a technique or idea and process it but then when I use it, I don't take ownership of it, I don't develop it into something that is mine. How I use an idea or technique is mine, but there isn't that push, the exploration of the 'What if?' that really will take things forward.
So this months TIF is a momento of the CQ weekend, the mono printing was a technique we covered in class. I've used the idea 'as is' and should have made more of it. The Ginko leaf, printed then coloured with wonderful Inktense crayons, is a souvenir of the weekend. Like many others I find the leaf shape appealling, but being a good 'northern lass' had never seen one in the flesh before! 12" x 12"

I saw one of her linocuts 'Grassland' at the RA summer exhibition a couple of years ago and of all the works on show that was my favourite. The background is made up of tiny little lines that you can't see from a distance but which make the whole piece shimmer. Your piece has the same quality.

Lovely work! I like the balance between the textured gray with marks in the background and the red leaf isolated in the foreground.
