No picture, no post!

My workroom is a hive of activity at the moment!  I've literally just finished quilting one piece, there's a another in sections on the design wall and pieces for a smaller variant waiting to be put together. That's aside from the sketch for the next piece and a gift quilt which is awaiting binding hanging over the banister in the hallway.
So why no posts with all this activity to talk about? Well my techniques are fairly traditional quilting techniques so probably not very interesting to experienced quilters and none of the pieces are sufficiently finished to photograph!
I could just write about what I've been doing, but I've realised that I have quite a big mental barrier blogging without a photograph to illustrate the post! This came about as a result of reading a book, which I will blog about in due course, in which one of the exercises was to identify 'barriers to progress'. I've always enjoyed blogging, it gives me time to think and it's fun to look back over the posts I've written since I joined Blogger way back in 2004, so it's good to have found a way back in, all I need to do now is make writing a habit again ....

In trying to reply to comments I keep coming up against the 'noreply-comment@blogger.com' address which means I can't reply personally to the sender. When I first set up this blog I was wary of inviting unwelcome intrusions into my life (My Space, Facebook etc. were unheard of at the time) and set my comments address to no-reply.

Recently I've changed this to a web-based address, so that if things did get sticky could be deleted, and what a difference it has made - dialogues have begun with blog visitors, none unwelcome, that I couldn't have dreamt of a while ago.

I'm thinking of starting a campaign!!!!!!!!

... but I'm experimenting with a Wordpress blog.

It's a lot cleaner on screen and seems easy to manage, but of course I don't know how easy it is to add comments, she says hinting heavily -

..... replying to comments. I find it harder in Blogger to reply to comments than in any other blog programs I've used, so I'm going to try replying via posts!

Digital Gran - it's great to hear from you! I've been following your blog on and off for a while, and loved the photos of the NW Embroiders Guild exhibition. By the time the next one comes around I should be retired and able to get to see it!!

Judy - when I originally posted the St. Ives quilt, I acknowledged that it was based on an Alfred Wallis paining which I think I omitted when I posted the finished piece. It's one of the few things I've go that will end up on a wall - just because it is so reminiscent of that part of St. Ives.

margaret the stamp is one of the many eraser stamps I've been making for FYOVL and the ink is a bog standard Versacolor. (What you can't see are the scrap papers where I've taken off just enough ink to get the graduation!) I'm hoping to get hold of something to use with fabric because I can see this idea translating quite well. I'm told Stazon inkpads are good for durability but haven't tried them.

sharon young this site best summarises what I liked about Heptonstall - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bradford/sense_of_place/heptonstall_1.shtml It's one of those place that I knew the name of, but nothing about and it surprised me that, though it is now overshadowed by Hebden Bridge it was actually far more important 200 years ago. A small place with a lot of history!

Marion - some of my best friends are mark makers!!! And I've nothing against it at all, except when I suspect that what I'm seeing is a bit of random background noise, created because it's the latest thing!

Ann - my apologies, but as one of my earlier birthday cards said, don't worry about being **, you''ll soon grow out of it! At least I resisted tagging the post 'dyeing'!

Maggie - it's too early to comment on 'Visual Language'. I bought it because the progression looked interesting and I 'go on' about doing what I can do. This is my way of trying to move on, and I have a great deal of respect for Claire Benn and Leslie Morgan

Neoflags

I've been asked about the flags that have appeared in mysidebar. They are on temorary loan (as in, I'll have to pay a sub. from Aug 4) from http://www.neoworx.net/ I actually preferred the more subtle text cloud, which is free anyway, but for some reason couldn't get it to work. According to the site when my free tial runs out, the display will revert to the text cloud so all could be well in the end.

No, I didn't know what one was either, though I'd always wondered how you made them! Thanks to Carol Clasper, quilter and IT guru you might now see that the Blogger icon in the address line has been replaced, temporarily, by a squidged up version of my piece 'Loose edges and frayed ends'. Or at least you will if you've moved on from IE 6! As well as providing the instructions Carol was kind enough to spend some time solving a little visibility problem that I was having. Thank you Carol. Not only that but she's making some rather interesting books at the moment.
