......not mine but Jane Dunnewold's, here . Of her blog Jane says, "On November 10, 2008, I committed to a year-long photo-journaling practice. As an artist, I believe it is valuable to spend time every day looking at the world around me. To this end, I committed to posting a daily photograph and a few thoughts when applicable - on color, design, spirit and making."
I find it useful to read her occasional commentary, as looking at things through someone elses eyes always adds a new perspective.

An ongoing series of posters designed by graduates of University College Falmouth for the purpose of pasing on advice and inspiration to first year students.The scheme began in 2006 and was repeated in 2007. An advice to sink in slowly poster is given as a welcoming gift to every student enrolling on a BA course at UCF.

Lunacy ????

I don't 'do' New Year resolutions, but I have decided to set myself some targets for 2008. One is to move myself on, in creative terms, at something more than the snail's pace that I usually manage. With this in mind, though by no means the only weapon in the armoury, I have signed up for Sharon Boggon's Take it Forward challenge which "aims to apply textile technique skills to design". Sharon is an embroiderer, I have watched her TAST challenge and been impressed with her commitment to this challenge which has required her to post a new stitch, with variations, every week throughout 2007. The TIF challenge is monthly which might seem leisurely to Sharon but will keep me on my toes!

What I'm looking for is a way to capture where I am now, so that I can try to measure what happens in 2008. Any suggestions with this would be very welcome!

More Inspiration!

I read many more blogs than I have listed in the sidebar thanks to Google Reader. One of them is Botany Photo of the Day, it provides me with a daily piece of 'eye candy', some more useful than others. Another photo blog I tap into is http://freefoto.blogspot.com/, Ian posts as he travels, but he also re-visits old haunts in different lights and seasons which is what I find most interesting.

I found this photo of a telegraph pole on the web, ready cropped and waiting to be interpreted in fabric. Is that cheating?

I struggle to find ways of replying to comments other than through the blog itself, but I would like to say thank you for both the kind remarks and for opening my mind to other alternatives. Unfortunately the turqouise piece is already in two parts because the idea of turning it sideways hadn't even occurred to me, but just looking at the rotated photo I could see that you had a point!

So here, created quickly and electronically, are two versions of what might have been - it would have been great fun to create tassels that had rough cut pieces of fabric incorporated in them as an alternative texture to the fairly bland surface of the quilt.



















This one has the life, the soul, that I was looking for - I was just too cowardly to add more contrast to the real thing.
