A day out - at home

We live in a suburb of Manchester in a part of Cheshire which is now known as Greater Manchester. I don't think of myself as a Mancunian (or anything else for that matter) and the best way to describe the way I see Manchester is as a service centre - a source for shopping, entertainment health services etc.

Today we needed to do a bit of shopping and decided to combine it with stroll round parts of Manchester we don't normally see. So below are pictures of typical Manchester Victorian Architecture followed by views of Canal Street, now known as the gay village but a good indicator of what greenery in a city centre can do for a place. The tree guard is probably in indicator of what a city has to do to protect its' greenery!

The Chinese community in Manchester is long established and the building of the arch was an echo of the one in London. This was a quiet Sunday but I had to be quick to get this photo and avoid the traffic!
